I ordered this adapter to adapt a gm 5 speed to my 57 ford f100 with a 272 y-block. the truck had a ford 4 speed in it so it had that bellhouseing. The bolt holes in the adapter plate do not line up with holes in the bellhousing and the lip that fits inside the hole in the bell housing is much smaller than the hole in the housing. the transmission side lines up fine. Do I need to find a 3 speed or car bellhousing? or is this the wrong adapter for my needs?

Here are the specs on that adaptor # 5605173, the first set of specs (Bellhousing bolt hole dimensions) are the dimensions your bellhousing should have for this particular adaptor. The three speed car bellhousing may be the one you need, and this adaptor should work for the application. Bellhousing bolt hole dimensions: Top hole width = 5-5/16" center to center, Bottom hole width = 6-3/8" center to center, Bolt hole spacing top to bottom = 7-5/16". Transmission mount bolt hole dimensions: Top hole width = 8-9/32", Bottom hole width = 9-3/16", Bolt hole spacing top to bottom = 4-7/8". Bellhousing collar dimensions: 4.686" O.D., 4.346" I.D., Depth = .175". Transmission collar = 4.675

These adapters adapt MOST GM transmissions to the earlier 1949-64 Ford bell housings. Some S10 transmissions utilize a rotated pattern and others have a specific bolt spacing. For fit verification these basic dimensions should determine correct alignment and fit: BELLHOUSING BOLT HOLE DIMENSIONS: TOP HOLE WIDTH = 5-5/16" CENTER TO CENTER BOTTOM BOLT HOLE WIDTH = 6-3/8" CENTER TO CENTER BOLT HOLE SPACING TOP TO BOTTOM = 7-5/16" TRANSMISSION MOUNT BOLT HOLE DIMENSIONS: TOP HOLE WIDTH = 8-9/32" BOTTOM HOLE WIDTH = 9-3/16" BOLT HOLE SPACING TOP TO BOTTOM = 4-7/8" BELLHOUSING COLLAR SIZE IS 4.686" O.D. AND 4.346" I.D. IT'S DEPTH IS .175"
