These could possibly be used in a mud truck. Keep in mind that these are built with stock replacement type gears and 31 spline max on the axles. If that strength of parts will hold up in your application then it should be just fine.

These third members are not intended for dag race applications. They are ok in mild street/strip applications but high power levels, slicks, and especially hard launches (especially trans brake) are not recommended. The ring and pinion used are stock replacement as far as material and strength are concerned. You may want to do some research as far as what type of ring and pinion gears are recommended for your application.

The 3rd member you specify has a full spool. It is intended for circle track racing only. It will not work on the street (it’ll chew up your axles very quickly).

Thanks for your interest in our 9” Ford gear assemblies, the case is a stock 9” Ford and the bearings in the assemblies is dependent upon what spool choice you use. In our racing catalogs we have all the different spool and bearings listed for each application. Thanks for the inquiry.

Hi I purchased this third member STD spool with 4.11 gears and did all the break in procedures now when I decelerate is it normal for third member to make a howling whining noise someone told me I might have to shim it.

Some gear sets will have a deceleration whine like you describe. Typically it is due to the way the ring gear and pinion gear mesh together. I have experimented with different pinion depth settings as well as backlash settings when attempting to eliminate this on my own projects and most of the time it is impossible to eliminate the deceleration whine if a gear set has it.

Lose the RTV silicone! With Fel-Pro reuseable third member housing gaskets, you don’t have to worry about applying an RTV and waiting for it to set up to seal. In addition, installing precut Fel-Pro gaskets helps eliminate the risk of contaminating the differential housing with RTV.

Gaskets have a steel core and non-stick coating.

                        Whether you're running a stock flattie and rearend or hopped-up overhead and quick change, you need to run a good gear lube. Remember that your rearend was designed fifty plus years ago and needs all the help it can get. 

The biggest improvement you can give it is a lubricant that will allow the gears to survive the highway speeds that cars see today. L.E. gear oil is what we use in our 350 mph streamliner, that uses a V-8 quick change, without failure. The "red stuff" provides superior lubrication for long gear life. You can't win if you don't finish. We suggest 90 weight for the street and 140 weight for extreme uses.

Rear Axle Breather, AN4 Bulkhead

The pleated high efficiency breather comes with an AN4 bulkhead fitting and nut. AN4 fitting is 7/16 x 20 thread. Filter has hose clamp to tighten lower rubber flange to bulkhead fitting. Rubber lipped base of filter accepts 1/2" fitting and can be adapted to a 1/4" pipe nipple if desired. Can be used on various applications with appropriate plumbing components.
