What's in the Box

Info

If you dont want to spend an arm and a leg on a rear disc brake kit and still have to weld the bracket on, weve got you covered. This kit includes bolt-on caliper brackets, 11-1/4" vented rotors, 78-88 GM emergency brake calipers, brake pads and hardware.

  • Fits both 5 on 4-1/2" and 5 on 4-3/4" bolt circles
  • For Ford passenger car axles ONLY
  • Fits axle with maximum flange diameter of 6-1/4" O.D.
  • For 15" and larger wheel applications ONLY

NOTE: This bolt on brake kit is designed to be used on 8" and 9" housings using 3/8" retaining bolts. If you want to use it on a 9" housing with 1/2" bolts, you will need to use the 3/8" hardware to do so. Fits "old" and "new" style big bearing (3.150" bearing O.D.) Ford housings and with axle offsets of a minimum 2-3/8" to 2-1/2".

Axle Flange Identification Chart (GIF)

910-31921 Instructions (PDF)

Item Details

With emergency brake calipers threaded to accept 7-16"-20 banjo bolt.

Application

  • "Old-style" big bearing 9" Ford axle
  • "New-style" big bearing 9" Ford axle
  • 8" Ford axle
  • Axle housings with minimum axle offsets of 2-3/8" to 2-1/2"

This kit will NOT work on pickup housings or the 50's 9" housings as they only have about 2" backspace. The exception would be the late 50's station wagon rear ends.

When using with a Currie Axle with an o/d register of 2.795", the rotor is included in this kit with an i/d register of 2.78" and therefore will need to be machined by increasing the hole diamter in the rotor to match the Currie axle spec of 2.795"

Horrible product

August 19, 2015
The instructions for this were horrible, the parking brake wouldn't adjust correctly and they are not anywhere near as flexible as they say they are. To bleed these brakes you have to take the calipers off. Overall a terrible product. The only great part was the customer support offered by Speedway. They were really helpful and I bought the Wilwood version instead.
No, I would not recommend this product.

Bolt-on fail

July 24, 2015
I was unable to install the brake kit due to it's bolt pattern. The item was described as an 8-9 inch bolt-on disc brake kit. I found the flange on my 8 inch ford rear was a type from a mustang 2. The return shipping was 54 dollars. An expensive lesson.
No, I would not recommend this product.

Great Kit; Lousy Instructions

May 09, 2014
This is a 5-star kit with 1-star instructions. My buddy and I got them together largely through a trial and error process, comparing the parts to the blurry illustrations. Without any identification of the parts in the illustrations, the written instructions are nearly useless. The instructions should advise that the stock retainer plates should definitely be removed. Otherwise, the T-bolts aren't long enough. Finding the right combination of spacers (provided with the kit) in order to center the calipers over the rotors is a tedious process. I ended up using all the spacers in the kit. I found it necessary to position the calipers facing straight back instead of up and back, as the latter position left the top caliper bolt inaccessible because of proximity to my '32 Ford's frame rail. With all of that said, it's a great kit in terms of the parts. Now I can't wait to try them out!
Pros:
  • Great parts
  • Great kit
Cons:
  • Lousy instructions
Yes, I recommend this product.

Bleeders allways!! need to be on top

The inlet fitting needs to be on the bottom and the bleeder at the top. You have the calipers on the wrong side of the car. Take the calipers off and swap sides and they will be correct.

This bolt on disc brake kit for the 9” Ford uses a 11 ¼" rotor and adding in the caliper thickness nets 14” as the minimum requirement for wheel ID. We apologize but do not have a 9" rear disc brake kit that will work with your wheels at 12 3/8" ID.

This kit will only work with axle off sets in the range of 2-3/8" to 2.5". The hole in the center of the rotor which is the axle register on the rotor is 2.78" and the maximum axle flange OD is 6 1/4". Check these dimensions on your axle to be sure that this kit will work for you.

caliper bracket - which orientation The bracket that holds the caliper in this kit has 2 welded bosses that stick out one side of the plate. The welded bosses on the caliper bracket need to face to the center of the vehicle. There is a good picture of this on the illustration on the website.

Will this kit fit on 1966 Mustang The car has lowered leaf springs

Answers

May 05, 2014
EricM
This kit will work on nearly all 8 and 9 inch Ford applications. The lowered springs should not be an issue but on occasion a shock relocating kit or staggered shocks may be an issue. The calipers can be mounted ahead or behind the axle as needed for clearance without sacrificing any stopping power.

These 5 on 4 1/2" pattern will accept 1/2" studs and the 5 on 4 3/4" pattern will accept 7/16" studs. If your studs are larger than this you could drill the holes larger.

Speedway’s 9” rear disc brake kit with E brake under number 91031921 works on most 9” applications including parallel leaf springs. This is dependent on the distance from the housing flange to the leaf springs. On our website under the purple print pdf instruction file you will find a picture of the kit installed for comparison to your existing clearance. The buggy spring application referenced in a review on our website placed the perch brackets very close to the housing flange causing interference. If you were to swap the kit side to side to place the calipers ahead of the axle then the E-brake cables would need to loop and come back to the calipers from the rear which is usually not desirable. We suggest comparing the photo on our website in the instruction file to your existing clearance prior to ordering
