With the adapter plate in place we suggest using the intended starter that comes in this kit with the modified nose cone in order to get full flexplate gear engagement.

There will likely be some modifications to the floor pan tunnel or where the trans hump is at. The overall length of the AOD is 30 3/8” and from front mount to cross member mount center is 22 5/16”. There are width and height dimensions on the internet by searching AOD dimensions to understand modifications needed.

Yes we offer the conversion hardware separately as kit number 91628901. That kit for the C4 will also work on the AOD transmission as long as you choose the 164 tooth flex plate.

No, the Flathead six did not share the same bell housing configuration and the adapter plate for the Flathead V8 will not match up.

AOD into 31 Model A I want to put an AOD behind my 53 Merc CM. My frame is aftermarket boxed. What drop should I have for my trans mount and what about pinion angle with chassis unloaded? Any problems with body or floor boards?

Kit number 91028907 puts an “AOD transmission behind your 49-53 flathead engine. Cross member drop for the trans will need to be mocked up to determine the drop you actually need. Pinion angle should be set at ride height with the rake taken into consideration. The imaginary line from the pinion shaft as compared to the line out the end of the transmission should never cross to avoid vibration. They can run parallel but never cross each other. Depending on your floor and firewall it is common to have to open up the transmission area in the firewall and front floorboard when comparing to stock drive train.

This transmission conversion kit will also work on the 1948-53 truck blocks and we have not received any negative comments on clearance issues. With the transmission dimensions different from the standard transmission the tunnel may require modification..

Speedway part number 91028907. This Flathead AOD transmission should work in a 1940 ford, as long as you have a 49-53 8BA block with the flat bell housing on the back, and you are using an open driveline. The rear cross member will likely need to be modified to accept the new transmission.

The TV cable is included with this flathead to AOD kit and many customers have used it with the stock carburetor. Depending on your throttle cable some cables will mate up with the TV cable or bracket and the pressure gauge included will determine proper TV setting which can be set with either the shop manual or a Ford technician.

This is a follow up to a previous question that was answered by John "the expert". I asked about hooking up the Aod with the stock carb. John stated "The TV cable is included with this flathead to AOD kit and many customers have used it with the stock carburetor." After contacting Lokar, who makes the TV cables, I was informed that it is impossible to use the stock carb, and in fact no carb that will fit the stock manifold will work. I have been informed that the best bet is to find an adapter from the 3 bolt manifold to a 4 bolt to fit a 1965-71 Ford 2100 carb. Does Speedway have any such adapter?

We do offer adapter part number 5605159, which is for Rochester 2G carbs, however I don't know if the bolt pattern is the same as a Ford carb you are talking about. The bolt pattern on this is 3 1/4" x 1 7/8"
