What's in the Box

Info

It's getting harder to find flathead Ford clutch components. We can help you resolve this problem with our 10" Long-style pressure plates for the flathead V8. This pressure plate has a 6 bolt pattern divided up into 3 groups of 2 with a 3.125” center-to-center.

Pressure plate bolt pattern must match your flywheel!

T-5 and Adapter Tech Tips (Link)

Notes

  1. Will not work with transmission adapters 916-28912, 916-28914, 560-5272, or 560-5174. This pressure plate has external counterweights that interfere with these adapters.
  2. If your application requires the use of a large pressure plate along with one of these adapters, use pressure plate 910-15635 as it has the same bolt pattern as the 10" pressure plate but does not make use of the external counterweights. You can use a 10" disc with the 10-1/2" pressure plate 910-15635.

need Long style clutch for 63 Buick 215 V8 flywheel Will this pressure plate work? Here are the specs on the flywheel I have; 3 groups of two threaded holes spaced 3.125 apart. Flywheel is drilled for 5/16x 18 thread bolts and as near as I can tell it is a 11.5 bolt circle (5.75" from center of bolt hole to center of flywheel. I will need the 11/8 26 spline disc as well as I'm using a GM V8 T5 transmission.

The bolt circle listed for the 10 and 10 ½ pressure plates is 11 5/8” and will likely fit without issues. It is commonly referred to as a 11.5" bolt circle.

Customers have used the 10” pressure plate with a 9” clutch disc but if ordering both we do also have the 9” long style pressure plate under number 91015651. The difference is of course is in the bolt circle and if you have the 10” pressure plate bolt circle we also have the matching clutch disc.

Although it was called a 10” clutch like the Ford the Mercury measured just over 10” by up to 3/8”. Over the years many were replaced by the 10” many times without any problems. The style of pressure plate is correct but Mercury’s had 6 evenly spaced bolt holes instead of 3 sets of two. The Mercury had 11 5/8” bolt circle like the Chevy V8 and the pressure plate was 10 5/8”. Verification on your end is always suggested to avoid drilling your flywheel.

Most of the early clutches were nine inch with the exception of the heavier duty trucks. In that case they were 10 and even larger. To use with your original passenger car transmission the counter weight fingers may not clear the I.D. of the case and require modification to the transmission case and grinding off some of the counter weights. This has been done several times over the years by our customers.

Speedway part number 91015657. This 10" Long style pressure plate features a 6 bolt pattern with 3 groups of 2 bolts with 3.125" centers. As long as your flywheel has this pattern, it should work fine. It would be best to measure your pattern to see if it is the same. As far as manufacturer, this particular pressure plate is a Speedway brand part.

To verify you have sufficient clearance the 10" has external weights on the fingers that may cause clearance issues. We suggest using the 10 1/2 Pressure plate number 91015635 that will work with either a 10" or 10 1/2" clutch disc and still leave more clearance. Both pressure plates have the same bolt pattern to compare to your existing flywheel and you will likely need to use the large Chevy flywheel and have it drilled to accept the Ford pressure plates.
