The Flaming River Performance Vega Steering Box is an all new unit designed specifically for street rods. This box is 30% stronger than the OEM box, and it uses a needle bearing design to far outlast the original bushing design of the 70's. The Vega Steering Box features new castings and components. A faithful reproduction of size, shape and mounting hole locations and no core charge.

Must use Vega Pitman Arm # 702-2924 (at right).

  • Accepts Vega-spline u-joints, pitman arms and accessories
  1. The Vega-style box is preferred by most builders due to the steering geometry of straight axle equipped cars.
  2. Not Recommended for Vehicles over 3,000 lbs.
  • Output shaft is 1" outside diameter
  • Splined area tapers from .934" to .997"
  • Threaded area takes a 3/4" nut and lock washer

make sure you will have clearance needed

I wanted to replace an old 'Mullins' Vega box. This new box sounded as if it would be better than an original. I imagine it is; but the minor changes in external dimensions prevented me from using it as a replacement. Luckily, I had a new unused box for another chassis on hand to use, and was able to get the hot rod Model A back on the road quickly. My mounts on the frame placed the box too close to the motor mount and it could not be mounted without modifying the motor mounts or changing box location. If no other mounts are closely placed to the box now the product should work fine and install with ease. ...just do not assume it will automatically be a simple replacement for a stock Vega steering box.

Smooth steering

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Looks good and works just fine on my T Bucket. Just like having power steering on a light car like a T Bucket. Easy to install. Black paint with a chrome top plate. May not be a direct replacement for a Vega box, but worked ok for my application.
