What's in the Box

If you are building or updating a T-bucket that has a reversed Corvair steering box, a little chrome may be in order. These beautifully chromed works of art function just as good as they look. Both units feature a strong cast steel case, needle bearings, and precision gears with a 20:1 ratio.

  • All new components - not rebuilt
  • Manufactured from steel for improved strength
  • All NEW sealed needle bearing design
  • Longer life and less vibration vs. stock-style units
  • 20:1 steering ratio
  • 5/8"-36 spline input shaft

If you have tried to find a good used Corvair steering box, you know that the chances of finding a good one are slim to none. Don't bother! These brand new Corvair steering boxes have already been reversed. Designed for use on traditional steering cars and T-buckets, these boxes are constructed of modern high strength steel and needle bearings to ensure durability, which original boxes just can't offer.

Painted black. Does NOT include pitman arm. Ratio is 20:1.

Sweet Mfg. Double Steering U-Joint, 5/8 36-Spline to 3/4 DD, Vega/Corvair/GM

Sometimes you need just a little bit more clearance than a standard steering u-joint can give you. Our double u-joints allow up to 70 degrees of angle or 1" of offset for just those occasions. These steering universal joints are made of forged vanadium steel and real needle bearing joints.

  • Overall length is 5-1/2”
  • O.D. at ends is 1.12”
  • O.D. in the middle is 1.476”
  • O.D. at caps is 1.350”
  • O.D. at cap retainer screws is 1.545”
  • Length of center section is 2-3/4”
Learn more about u-joints and steering systems by reading our tech article, U-Joint Selection and Design.

Note: GM columns measure slightly less than 1" while IDIDIT and Flaming River columns measure a true 1".  DO NOT interchange these u-joints.

All units feature a strong steel case, precision 20:1 ratio gears, and roller needle bearings which far outlast the original OEM-style bushing design of the 70's.

  • 30% Stronger worm & nut than OEM unit
  • 30% Stronger sector than OEM unit
  • Stronger pressure casting (Not sand cast)
  • Sealed needle bearing design
  • Bigger gears

Note: There is a tightening tolerance when installing this mount. All three bolts must be started (threaded partially) into the holes before final tightening/securing of application. If installed with only one bolt tightened at a time, mounting holes will not line up properly.

Speedway Stainless Steel Corvair Pitman Arm, 7 Inch End to End

This is our forged 'new design' Corvair pitman arm. It measures approximately 7" end to end, approximately 5-3/8" from the center of the big hole to the center of the small hole. The arm has a side-to-side offset approximately 1-7/8". The small hole fits an early Ford tie rod end (such as our 910-02909) and it is half tapered from both sides so that the drag link can be mounted from either side.
