Great buy and has all the parts I needed

August 20, 2014
I bought this brake caliper for 1979 Trans Am with rear disk brakes because when I purchased my car it was missing the right caliper. I tried to find the original one but they aren't currently being reproduced. You can get the caliper but you can't get the emergency brake hardware needed that mounts on the back of the caliper. It is not a direct bolt on but if you go to napa and get a 12" rubber brake hose with a 7/16 banjo fitting on the end.It works better than the original hard line that breaks when you change calipers. The price of $99.00 is great and it is loaded, has the pins and pads.
Pros:
  • has hard to find t/a e brake parts
Yes, I recommend this product.

The calipers and complete brake system must have fluid in it and have the air bleed out properly in order for the emergency brake to function. Bleeding these calipers is not like a typical caliper. Be sure to read through and understand the instructions completely. Varying your procedure at all from these instructions will nearly always give you issues with how the brakes and/or emergency brake functions. Instructions for these calipers are available here: http://static.speedwaymotors.com/pdf/910-31046.pdf

What brake pads do I use with these calipers? I'm wondering if I can use a set of the various compounds of GM Metric pads on the racing side of the catalog to match the weight and intended use of my rod, or if these use a different size/shape pad.

This caliper uses the standard GM Metric 1978 and up brake pad. The use of a racing brake pad could cause a brake dust issue

These Metric E-brake calipers work in place of the mid size GM metric calipers from ’78 and up. The bolt pattern for mounting is 5 7/16” center to center of the slide bolts. Offset and alignment to the rotor is critical for pad life and safe braking. These calipers are designed for a 1.00 thick rotor and if used on a thinner .81 thick rotor proper adjustment is required to achieve a good pedal and braking.

No, they will not. You need the older calipers that are non metric. These ones can only be used with a 1" thick rotor and you should have 1 1/4" thick rotors if you are using front rotors off a 3/4 ton 4WD Chevy with and Dana 44 or 10 Bolt.
