What's in the Box

In 1938, the 94 two-barrel carburetor was born, fueling flatheads and other engines until production ceased in 1957. Flash-forward to 2010 and the 94 is once again available, by none other than Edelbrock! Adding to Edelbrock's reputation of bolt-on and perform carburetors, the Edelbrock 94 two barrel carburetor is intended for nostalgic and period correct hot rods and restorations.

Like the Holley 94 carburetor and Ford 94 carburetor that came before it, this Edelbrock carburetor features a die-cast bowl and air horn with a cast iron 3-bolt flange. It's throttle shaft has been extended to make it easier to set-up dual and triple carburetor combinations, especially when used with Edelbrock's exclusive progressive linkage. Extensive testing, both on the road and in a state-of-the-art engine dynamometer facility has allowed Edelbrock to fine tune power valve and jetting combinations to deliver smooth and strong performance. This 2 barrel Edelbrock carb is finished off with a zinc-dichromate coating for durability and classic looks.

This is a “hot rod” style 2 barrel carb, designed specifically for multi-carb systems. It is not a direct bolt on replacement for OEM applications and will require modifying the factory throttle linkage to use it as such. 

Please note that the carb is provided for a multi carb set up and as such, the carb will not include the passenger side ball and socket linkage arm bracket # 325-1159 (Edelbrock # 1159) which is available separately and shown below when required.

Notes

This carb will work in place of an original Holley/Ford 94 or Stromberg 97 carburetors with the 3 bolt base pattern. Centerline of the rear two bolts is 3-1/8” and from this centerline forward to the front hole is 1-7/8”. At an angle from one rear bolt hole to the front single bolt hole is 2-7/16”.

The Edelbrock 94 Carburetor does have a vacuum port, and it uses a 3/8-24 straight thread for the vacuum attachment. This carb can be used with OEM type ford Load-O-Matic distributors.

Flathead Carb

My wife's 1950 Ford F1 pickup with a flathead engine needed something...we did a complete overhaul (actually Don Garlits) and we tried to salvage the original carb but it was after 60 yyrs a little tired, leaking, just no pep. After replacing with the new carb...what a difference. Starts right away runs smoothly at all RPM's and just plain does it's job to perfection! Very happy with the quality of the carb, it is a beautiful piece to look at too! If you arte looking...STOP. This is what you need.

I was a little concerned because the description says you may have to modify your linkage to use on a stock setup. I did not. I did have to take the choke lever off of the old carb and put on the new one but it fit the same. I took a chance and tried hooking up the stock fuel line and it worked great also. No leaks. I think it costs too much but it works great!

Edelbrock 94 on 272 "Y" block Ford

I ordered this carburetor to replace the very tired original Holley 94 on my '56 Ford truck. I had to replace the distributor as well since the vacuum advance system on the original was a "Load-o-matic." which was incompatible with the new unit. It bolted right in, and after building a new throttle linkage and air cleaner (Stock ones were incompatible as well.) Replacing the stock distributor the truck started on the very first bump and has run well ever since. It seems more compatible with modern fuels, and the truck starts easily every time now. This truck is going to be a permanent "Work in progress" I am sure.

Sweet carbs

I bought 2 of these to run as center carbs on a 6x2 setup. I have spent some time with a flow meter and vacuum gauge to get the idle where I wanted it. After driving about 2000 miles so far I am still really happy with these. I will tell you to squirt some lube on the accelerator pump shaft every once in a while. Mine was sticking some.

The Edelbrock 1151 carburetor is a 3 bolt carb that has bolt spacing on the 2 bolt side of 3 1/8 center to center and from that line forward to the single bolt 1 7/8”. From either of the two bolt centers to the single bolt center is 2 7/16” and these measurements will need to be confirmed on your intake to verify fit. If removing a Stromberg 97, Ford 94, or Holley 94 then this carburetor will fit.

Does this carb need any adjustments to the float before installing? The original carbs in my truck have a flange on top so the air cleaner can be mounted on it. Your carb doesn't look like it has that, how can I mount the original air cleaner on this and/or what air cleaner would you recommend? My truck is all original 1951 239 V8.

The Edelbrock 94 carb comes pre-adjusted by the manufacturer. During shipping rough handling could possibly put the float out of adjustment. Any of the 2 5/8" neck air cleaners that clamp around the body of the carburetor will work with this. Some examples are 91011025, 91011018, 2474220.

We apologize but do not carry small or internal parts for the Edelbrock 94 carburetor. Overhaul kits, adjustable main jets, and extended throttle shafts are our basic limitations. For the small parts you may want to contact Edelbrock direct for availability.

The Edelbrock 94 Carburetor does have a vacuum port, and it uses a 3/8-24 straight thread for the vacuum attachment. This carb can be used with OEM type ford Load-O-Matic distributors.

Speedway Motors now offers a reproduction version of one of the most popular carburetors ever used, the original Stromberg 97! Original equipment on 30s and 40s cars and trucks, the Stromberg 97 has long been favored by flathead hot rodders and racers who realized the performance qualities of this timeless fuel supplier.

There have been numerous attempts to reproduce this unit, with little success. "Speedy" Bill Smith of Speedway Motors in Lincoln, Nebraska, took on the challenge to make a great product even better. The 9 Super 7 ® Carb brings this reproduction of the original Stromberg 97 2 barrel carb into the 21st Century!

Speedway Motors has incorporated all of the improvements shown above while maintaining the carburetors original look. Features such as the choke assembly, accelerator pump, main jets and cosmetics have all been faithfully retained. Additionally, each carburetor is individually flow tested and inspected for leaks. Perfection is the result! 

Aesthetically, the 9Super7 is nearly identical to the stock unit, minus the large 97 logo that appeared on the side and the patent numbers found on the float bowl area. Upgraded internal parts include; the float, needle, and seat. Jetting and power valve settings remain as they were for the original 97 carbs as well as the cfm and vacuum specs.

The other similarity that the 9 Super 7 shares with the original 97 is the setup and tuning necessary to yield a well-running machine. While perhaps not as simple as bolting on a single four-barrel, the 9 Super 7 makes setting up a multiple carburetor induction system easier than when Strombergs were available new. All thats required is an intake, a linkage system, a Uni-Syn syncing tool, and a little patience. Be sure to include the Secondary 9 Super 7 when installing multi-carb setups. Our 3 Carb kits come with one primary carburetor and two secondary carburetors while the 2 Carb kits are both primary carbs.  See our Multiple Carburetor Tech Tip for more information on using the 9 Super 7 in a 2x2 or 3x2 carb set-up.

On the primary 9 super 7 carb the throttle shaft extends from carb body .983" and has the hole on the end to pin the linkage. There is a brass sleeve that the throttle shaft rotates in that extends from the carb body .400 and this leaves the useable throttle shaft length of .583. There is sufficient room for progressive linkage and the manual throttle linkage that rotates over the sleeve.

Single Banjo Style Fuel Fitting, 5/16 Inch Hose

The cleanest way to plumb your multi carb set-up is to use banjo fittings. These 6061 T-6 aluminum fittings accept 5/16" I.D. hose and work on any carb with 1/2"-20 inlet threads. The Ford/Holley 94 carburetor will require spacers listed, which moves the banjo out to clear the carb body. Your Stromberg 97 style carb or Rochester 2G will not need the spacers.

Banjo fittings swivel 360 degrees while placing your lines closer to the carbs for maximum linkage clearance. The flange on the bolt slip fits into the banjo body keeping the fitting centered on the bolt. Large undercut on bolt and big hole will give excellent fuel flow. Teflon washers on both sides of the fitting seals the banjo.

These fittings work on all 2x2, 3x2, 4x2 and 6x2 intakes using Holley 94 or Stromberg 97 carbs. You need one single and one double for a 2x2, one single and two doubles for a 3x2, etc.
