What's in the Box

Info

Edelbrock now offers their 1938-1948 Ford/Mercury 24-Stud Flathead cylinder heads with the traditional block letters Vic Sr. used. Extensive R&D and modern CAD systems give these heads more power potential and greater heat control than any before! Works well on stock or modified engines.

These heads have 65cc chambers producing 8:1 compression with the stock bore & stroke. Plus, they accept up to .410" valve lift for use with most performance cams.

  • The original Edelbrock design for Fords and Mercurys
  • Rugged, ribbed internally and externally, with a large water capacity and excellent breathing characteristics
  • Cast at the Edelbrock Foundry in the USA of T-6 tempered A356 aluminum
  • 8.0:1 compression ratio on blocks with a 3/16" base relief (stock bore and stroke)
  • Compression ratio increase is approximately 3/10 of a percent with each 1/8" stroke

325-1126 Instructions (PDF)

Notes

  1. Edelbrock recommends the use of copper head gaskets with their Flathead cylinder heads.
  2. Recommended spark plug is a 14mm x 3/4" reach with flat gasket seat (Champion RC12YC).

Specs

  • 2-3/8" from the bottom surface to the top of the fins
  • 1-7/8" from the bottom surface to the top (not including the fins)

The heads fit perfectly and were easily applied to the 46 Merc. Block. We started the engin in a stand and they sealed perfectly. I look forward to many years of service when I get the motor installed in my 49 pickup . Thank you every one at Speedway!!!!

Beautiful heads

I have wanted a set of BLOCK SCRIPT Edelbrock heads for years now, and finally got a pair from Speedway. They were easy to install (would be worried if they weren't), and sealed with the block the first time. Obviously at .410 chamber height, valve clearance for my street-driven rod was no problem. Eventually, I plan to on using these heads on a replica of a specific early lake racer, and look forward to many years of use. Unfortunately, I don't know what they look like compared to the original BLOCK SCRIPT head, and hope they appear a dead-on copy when installed.
Pros:
  • great looks great name
Cons:
  • too perfect?
Yes, I recommend this product.

These are a different thickness than the original cast heads and we recommend a head stud kit number 56013953 or the ARP kit number 1011544101. Torque specs are different and torque per instructions. Copper head gaskets are commonly used under number 91015890.

The later heads have different and improved water passages along with outlet in the front verses center of the heads on top. Customers have mixed and matched for many reasons.
