What's in the Box

These kits allow you to mount front disc brakes on your 1955-1964 Chevy full-size car (Bel-Air, Biscayne, Impala, 150 Series, 210 Series). Front disc brakes provide a significant improvement in braking performance versus the drum brakes your old Chevy came with. This disc brake kit works with stock, drum brake spindles only - it does not work with 2" drop spindles. Kit will work with 14" wheels intended for disc brake applications, as well as most 15" (or larger) wheels.

Rotors are 11" diameter with 5 on 4-3/4" bolt pattern and calipers have 7/16"-20 inlets. This kit will increase track width 7/8" per side or 1-3/4" total when installed.

Notes

  1. This kit will not work with the original '55-'64 Chevy 4-wheel drum brake master cylinder. It does not have the capacity to supply the proper amount of pressure for front disc brakes. For best results, we recommend using master cylinder booster kit 910-31974 with this front disc brake conversion.
  2. Front drum-to-disc brake conversions also require a proportioning valve to be installed in the rear brake line circuit. The proportioning valve modulates pressure to the rear brakes which is necessary to prevent the rear brakes from locking up in an emergency stop situatiuon. Recommended master cylinder booster kit 910-31974 also incudes an adjustable proportioning valve to allow for a proper installation of front disc brakes.

You cannot beat this price. Nothing is left out of this kit. The calipers are a standard Metric caliper so parts are amazingly easy to find if future repairs/replacements are needed. Great product without a doubt!

I INSTALLED THIS PRODUCT IN A COUPLE OF HOURS, USING EVERYDAY BASIC TOOLS IT WAS AN EASY UPDATE TO MY 57 CHEVY BEL AIR, THE DISC BRAKE KIT,WAS A GREAT IMPROVEMENT OVER THE OLD DRUM BRAKES. I AM AMAZED AT THE EASE OF INSTALLATION, AND WONDERFULLY IMPROVED BRAKING.

I looked into the same disc brake kit from anther vender and they couldn't beat Speedway's price. Easy to install and works mush better with a new brake booster and master cylinder. I'm using 14x7 reverse wire wheels and they fit great, just my stock 14" didn't fit so I bought some disc type stock 14" rims when I ride stock with the hubs. Next I will be looking into buying the rear disc brake kit.

In those years the Chevy and the Buick did not share the same spindle and the brake kits will not interchange to the Buick. Sorry we do not offer the correct kit for your application.

No your stock 1957 Chevy wheels will not fit with this kit. Stock 14” Chevy wheels from the pre-disc brake era wrap around the original brake drums and cause interference with disc brake calipers. There are several different stock looking wheels that are disc brake compatible such as number 250025534 in 15”

This brake kit works with most 15” wheels and even 14” disc brake compatible wheels. The increase in offset is 7/8” per side or a track width change of 1 3/4 “ increase.

Using our brake kit number 91031911 on your 64 Impala requires an adjustable proportioning valve such as number 91031353 in the line to the rear brakes if still using the stock rear drum brakes. If you are upgrading to a dual reservoir master cylinder such as our number 91031445 we offer a non adjustable that would be close under number 91031364. If you are also upgrading to power brakes we offer a kit number 91035864 that comes with a non adjustable proportioning valve.

This disc brake kit p/n 91031911 will work on your 1964 Biscayne stock spindles as well as Bel-Air, Impala. The kit features 11" rotors with 5 on 4-3/4" bolt pattern, calipers, brake pads, rubber lines, seals, bearings, brackets and hardware to install the kit.

This kit is applicable to the 1955-64 Chevy cars and will not work properly on Buick, Olds, or Pontiac. Minor to major bracket and or spindle modification would be required.

No, you will want to use brake kit number 91031958. With a drum spindle you will need to machine boss on spindle for bracket to fit proper. There is not a direct bolt on disk kit for drum spindles.

No this will not work with 13" rims. This kit it will only work with 14" wheels intended for disc brake applications, as well as most 15" (or larger) wheels. To use this kit you would need to change your wheels.

I have a 55 Chevy 150. I have a 55 Chevy 150. The brake lines can be used, although depending on the age of them you might consider replacement. Brake Fluid has properties which cause it to absorb moisture. The moisture in the brake lines can cause a lot of rust to develop. Also you may need to add some adapters to allow the lines to connect properly to the new components. Your choice. When replacing a master cylinder, reusing the original push rod is the most logical choice. In some cases more length or less length may be required. Basic mock up to determine length would be the first step in making a choice. After assembly if you should notice excessive travel in the brake pedal before it starts to push into the master cylinder or that the brakes tend to not release fully after applications, you will likely need to change the push-rod. We offer several push-rods and the choice varies between applications.

All three calipers utilize stainless steel pistons. Stainless pistons are used to resist corrosion and retard heat transfer from the pads into the caliper body. High temperature, square faced bore seals are used to provide controlled piston retraction and reliable performance from the wider sealing face. This combination of components is a proven performer with long service life and a history of reliable performance in any type of driving environment, including extreme sustained high temperature racing applications. The caliper slide pin holes are fitted with dampening rings to minimize noise from vibration. The caliper is also fitted with bleed screws on both ends to facilitate mounting in any left hand or right hand, front leading mount, or rear trailing mount locations.

Kits contain a 1" bore master cylinder with 1/2"-20 and 9/16"-18 outlets, 8" dual diaphragm booster, and a knob style proportioning/metering valve. Also includes the necessary hardware to mount the booster to your original 55-57 Chevy brake pedal.

Hi-Temp 570's low viscosity allows easy bleeding of your brake system, eliminating aeration of the brake fluid caused by foaming due to excessive pumping of the pedal. 

This high temp brake fluid comes in a convenient 12 ounce container hermetically sealed to guarantee against unwanted absorption of moisture which can drastically lower the fluids boiling point (fluid from larger containers tends to become contaminated with moisture, lowering its boiling point and making it unsuitable for racing applications).
