Is it generally a smarter idea to use a BRONZE distributor gear than a usual steel or what have you? I am running a SPEEDWAY camshaft along with a MOROSO DURAFIRE distributor with the gear that came with it..I am seeing unusual wear on my distributor gear that is concerning me. I dont know if its the CAM or gear on the distributor thats not right. I am thinking if I run a BRONZE distributor gear it will atleast help slow the possible wear on the cam...are there any downsides to that? THANKS

The problem with using a bronze distributor gear on a street vehicle is that it will wear very quickly and require frequent replacement. If you have unusual wear on your distributor gear you should check to be sure that your distributor is installed at the correct height. We offer shims 54526150 to raise the distributor if needed. To check for the correct height you can use a gear marking compound (such as what comes in rear end rebuild kits) on the distributor gear. Then put it in the engine and turn it over a few revolutions. Next remove the distributor and note the location of the gear mesh. It needs to be centered in the distributor gear for the best longevity.
