Q & A

What's in the Box

Have you been dreaming about a little extra displacement for your Ford? By increasing the bore and stroke of your current engine, you can add those cubic inches without the hassle of switching to a big block.
George Reid thoroughly explains the concept of building a stroker, paying special attention to the effect that increasing the bore and stroke have on the engine as a whole. With this information, you’ll be better able to tailor your heads, cam, intake manifold, carburetor, and exhaust system to get the most out of the extra cubes.
Also included in this engine building book is a complete guide to factory head and block castings, as well as aftermarket block and head guides, so you can choose exactly the right parts for your project. This book is the definitive guide for building a big-inch Ford small block, complete with four engine buildups ranging from 331 to 408 cubic inches.

We apologize for the inconvenience but this book covers the small block fords in the 289, 302, and 351W category and not applicable to the Y-blocks. Speedway does offer some parts for the early Y-blocks but currently not in stroker kits and the like. You may want to try Mummert as they are one of the largest supplier of the 272-312 Ford engines.

Book - How to Rebuild & Modify Ford C4 & C6 Automatic Transmissions
(Part #28178227)
The Ford C4 and C6 automatic transmissions have been equipped in millions of production rear-wheel drive cars and trucks since they were introduced in the 1960s (C4 in 1964, C6 in 1966). They remained in production deep into the 1980s, when overdrive-equipped transmissions finally eclipsed them. However, the C4 and C6 still remain incredibly popular with enthusiasts, racers, and restorers alike due to their simplicity, strength, and low cost. Rebuilding either of these transmissions isn't overly difficult, but does require care, some specialized tools, and proper procedure to be followed closely. In How to Rebuild and Modify Ford C4 and C6 Automatic Transmissions, author George Reid walks readers through the process step-by-step, from removing the transmission from the vehicle, to complete disassembly and cleaning, to careful reassembly, to proper re-installation and road testing. Additionally, if the transmission will be used in a high-performance or competition situation, the author includes the various steps required to bolster the unit's strength, using commonly available aftermarket components. Each chapter contains special notes, sidebars, and technical tips to assist the reader at every step in the process. Some refer to safety, others to time-saving advice, and others to small modifications that may aid long-term durability or help the builder tailor the shift firmness. The author's extensive research and experience with these popular transmissions has resulted in a well-rounded full-color technical guide to their revitalization.
