Great engine for a great price.

June 23, 2015
Will be installed in my 54 Mercury to replace a tired 289. Looks great in the engine compartment. Well dressed with intake, valve covers and of course the blue paint. I would like a smaller distributor since the electronic is very big and stands out too much.
Pros:
  • Looks Great In Any Vehicl
Cons:
  • The Distributor Is Big
Yes, I recommend this product.

1962 Ford F100 Flareside Engine/Trans combo fit question I have a 1962 Ford F100 Flareside pickup. It had a 223 CID 6-cyl and I want to swap to this 302 engine and a C4 street king transmission. I have the Mustang II type IFS with bags and a bagged 4-link. I assume I will still need a rear sump pan. Any fit problems with this combo?

You will need the 302 with the rear sump pan number 9153210 and motor mounts 91018045 or 91018033-FORD could be used. For the transmission mount number 7204714 with the C4 cushion should finish the transplant.

Up thru mid 66 to late 66 the trans was a 5 bolt to the block and from then on was a 6 bolt. There are adapter plates to mate the early trans to the later 302 blocks as the pattern is different. Sorry we do not offer this adapter.

Replacement Moor for 1974 F100 Original Motor in this truck was a 302. Will this motor work while using the original water pump, AC compressor, power sterring pump and alternator? Also I have a 3 speed manual transmission and want to be sure bell housing and fly wheel (stamped C7TE-A) will work. What options for carborator for this engine. Has 3.25 rear end gear ratio and 15" tires.

The Blueprint 302 is the newer 81 and up block or Fox block. It utilizes 50 oz. external balance as compared with your earlier 28 ounce. You would need to get the later flywheel to use your clutch and bellhousing. Other components should work and for carburetor a 600 or 625 will be more than sufficient for the cubic inch.

Your Comet shows to have a front sump pan so part number 9153200 would have the correct oil pan.

As per the last 2 questions....do you folks sell the correct 50oz. flywheel for use with a clutch, and can this be substituted for the flex plate? I am converting a 1964 Mercury Comet 202 6cyl,3 speed to a small block 4 speed. I have a complete engine and t10 setup but I am considering this engine, instead of rebuilding the 289. My flywheel has been resurfaced but I don't know how much it weighs.

Sorry I do not have the correct 50 ounce flywheel for your application. You will need to determine if yours is a 28 or 50 ounce and either use it or new flywheels are typically available at a local auto parts store.

What is the firing order for this engine? Engine is started, but not running very smooth. All plugs/wires are good (plugs gapped and wires ohm correct), however wanted to check if firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 or 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 on this engine? I have it as 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. Thank you!

The 320 crate engine will fit your application, if you have the original leaf spring front end either front or rear sump pan should work. If you have installed a Mustang II style or Nova style front end then the rear sump would be required.

When putting a 302 Ford in a vehicle with a Mustang II front end normally you will need a rear sump oil pan and the correct number for the crate engine is number 9153210.

Small Block Ford Block Hugger Tight-Fit Headers, Plain
(Part #9300201)

For years it seemed like installing a 289-302-351W Ford in your street rod was a far bigger challenge than using a small-block Chevy. One significant problem was finding compact shorty headers. Well, problem solved! These tight-fit headers are designed to hug tight against your small block Ford V8 and can make seemingly impossible installations much easier to tackle.

For factory style oval port heads. Will work with GT40P heads. Includes 2.5" collector reducers to 2.25" pipe, gaskets and bolts.

  • Must be used with 910-67210 (auto trans) or 910-9504 (3/8" throw manual trans) style mini starter or equivalent compact starter
  • We recommend motor mounts 270-2221 (Left) and 270-2220 (Right)
  • Left mount may need to be ground 1/4” to provide clearance for collector
  • Fits engines with forward sump oil pans

Lucas Oil 10683 SAE 10W-40 Hot Rod Engine Oil, One 5 Quart Jug
(Part #484106831)
