454 B/B CHEVY BALANCING PLATE

August 03, 2011
I would buy this product again but, please beef up the instruction sheet for future buyers or they need to stamp the part with "This Side to engine", Or "This side to Flywheel" make it dummy-proof. Part appears well built though.
Pros:
  • Good welds on balancer
  • Part appears well built
Yes, I recommend this product.

Yes, the 396 and 427 big blocks use internal balance flexplates just like the small blocks. But I recommend spending the extra money and buying a 454 flexplate. These can sometimes create a knocking noise, and I have seen them crack across the heavy end.

Yes you can use your existing 396 flex plate along with this balance plate on a 454 engine.

Yes, you must use a 454 balancer on the front of the motor regardless of the setup at the rear of the motor.

Part number 91615376 This balance plate is used to offset the internal balance flywheel or flex plate on your big block Chevy. You will still use the original 454 front balancer.
