Q & A

What's in the Box

It doesn't get any simpler than this! Our most basic T-bucket frame is engineered for a simple and economical coil spring rear suspension with traditional-style radius rods. The front suspension is our time-tested transverse-leaf, spring-behind-axle setup with hairpin-style radius rods. Designed for the do-it-yourselfer, this frame has no front shock mounts - you can fabricate your own or choose from those offered by Speedway!

Shown with optional rearend and engine mounts installed. This part number does not include a rear axle housing or engine/transmission mounts (as pictured). If you wish to add these items to your chassis, simply purchase these items along with your frame kit.

All of our T kits are also available with chrome suspension.  This option includes chrome plated: front and rear hairpins, rear coilovers, front axle, front leaf spring, front shocks, steering arms, tie rod, drag link, and related hardware.

A great start, a solid foundation.

April 22, 2014
I choose the basic 23 kit because I love the traditional style but I still wanted to be able to add my own touch. The frame kit supplied me with a solid very well made foundation that I can build my dream car on.
Pros:
  • nicely done
  • straight clean
  • the welds the fit
Yes, I recommend this product.

FIT I am looking at the car kit #7151700 and rear end kit #7154040. Which brake kit should be used with this set up? Also, I will be placing a 1951 Flathead 239 with a C-4 transmission on this frame. Do you guys weld on the flathead motor mounts and C-4 mount? Do I need to change the front mount? Do I need to change any mount?

In ordering the Basic T bucket kit #7151700 and the rear axle option of 715700 the front and rear disc brake option is part number 7154040 and would be correct for the 9” new style big bearing housing. We apologize but the flathead motor mounts for the basic 23-25 is not available and would be up to the builder to fabricate and install.

We offer a complete front and rear brake kit 7154040 or 7154010 depending upon the spindle option you choose for this frame kit. Both of those kits include rear disc brakes for the 9" rear end option 715700.

There will be several obstacles when wanting to mount a stock 27 full fendered T body on our T bucket frame. The wheelbase is 102” for comparison and the spring sits behind the axle in suicide style as compared to the original T having the spring on top of the axle. Width of frame is 23.5” in the front and 28.5” in the rear and the rear has a 10” kickup which will require modifying the floor and inner structure as the original frame is flat. The fenders bolt to the top of the frame and the frame dimensions are different as well as mounting the running boards to a different dimensioned frame. It can be done but requires significant modification and alteration.

Dear Erich, you have to have your own 8" or 9" rear axle housing, all of you attachments comes with the kit to weld on yourself.

The chassis kit number 7151000 and others offered under a chassis package do come with the mounts for the suspension and shocks, etc. If you order the optional rear end at the time you order the chassis then the brackets are welded on basically as a free service inorder to acheive proper alignment and pinion angle.

will this frame handle a mildly built big block chevy?

will this frame handle a mildly built big block chevy?

Our T bucket frames are designed to accommodate the small block Chevy and Ford engines with the addition of the appropriate motor mount option. Currently we do not offer a big block mount option and this would be up to the customer to fabricate according to his preference. The frame is built well enough to handle the big block Chevy engines without problems. Distance from firewall to radiator will be fine using the rest of our components but if also getting the Body and other components we offer a different angle steering column mount for the necessary big block clearance. You may also be interested in one of our other kits using coil over suspension and hairpin/radius rod rear or triangulated rear with coil overs.

The Bantam body could be mounted to a 23 T body. These bodies do not have a floor installed, and if you install these on the shorter, budget frame, you might need to build a couple of braces to support the rear trunk area, as these frames are shorter than the Nostalgia and Deluxe frames. The answer is yes, but it will require you to build a floor and mounts for the body.
