What's in the Box

Our completely NEW 9" Ford third members start with an aftermarket heavy-duty cast iron carrier featuring a new cast iron Daytona pinion support and larger bearings. Then we use your choice of a standard (8.9 lbs.), lite (6 lbs.) or megalite (5.55 lbs.) steel full spool.

Each is available with your choice of 3.50:1 to 7.33:1 gear ratio ring & pinion. Also includes NEW bearings and Viton high-temperature seals. Professionally assembled for oval track race use and shipped in a re-useable plastic storage case.

Third members are made to order. Please allow 24-48 hours for order to ship.

Available options include a yoke to accept 3 1/4" Chevy/GM U-joint (add 91048339) and lightening of the ring gear to remove weight (add 91600013).

Warranties

WARNING: Circle track racing applications require a minimum of 4 qts. of rearend lube. Using less than this amount will lead to immediate pinion failure.

This third member is not really intended for drag racing but it can be used in mild drag race applications where stock strength ring and pinion gears are adequate. Be sure to choose the standard weight spool (STD in drop down menu) for drag applications. We offer this third member in a variety of gear ratio's beyond 4.56. Simply choose the ratio you prefer.

This all new third member uses carrier housing 91048390 and pinion support 91048396 which are both nodular iron. These have 3.063" OD carrier bearings.

On the Ford 9" ring and pinion the ratio's with a 'L" behind them are for a lightened ring and pinion. Besides ratio's marked with a "L", ratio 4.78, 5.25, 6.14, 6.66, 6.83, 7.00, 7.16 and 7.33 have the lightened option

We build all of our third members with a solid pinion spacer. This allow yoke changes without the worry of changing the pinion bearing pre-load.

Option - Labor to Lighten 9 Inch Ring & Pinion

This labor option is only available on Ford 9" ring gear when you purchase your new ring and pinion of a 3.89 and higher ratio.  Due to the size of the ring gear, this option will not be applicable to a 3.70 and lower ratio.

A 5.43 ring gear comes out 2.6 lbs. lighter. Other ratios may vary.

Lose the RTV silicone! With Fel-Pro reuseable third member housing gaskets, you don’t have to worry about applying an RTV and waiting for it to set up to seal. In addition, installing precut Fel-Pro gaskets helps eliminate the risk of contaminating the differential housing with RTV.

Gaskets have a steel core and non-stick coating.
