I usually don't. The crush washer should seal the adapter to the cylinder

No thread sealant is not needed on either side of this adapter. The taper will seal up the connection. Thread sealant is not recommend as it could possibly keep you from getting the fitting tightened properly.

You will need to measure the Outside Diameter of the threads of a fitting or bolt that will thread in where you would like to use these adapters.

will this fitting work on a Wilwood tandem master cylinder that has a 1/2"-20 thread. the master cylinder uses a fitting with a gasket and does not seal on an inverted flare. I need a -3 male to 1/2"-20 thread with a gasket fitting. Thanks.

Adapter fitting number 910317-1/2 could be used in a straight thread port along with a sealing washer such as number 6171096. In aluminum we also offer 6174039 which may be of interest.
