What's in the Box

Info

Mates 60° Chevy V6 to Chevy Turbo 350 transmission. Approximately 1/8” thick. For TH350 transmission application.

916-28907 Instructions (pdf)

Application

The "T" or mushroom shaped adapter is the converter adapter. The small end presses into the rear of the V6 crank and the larger I.D. then serves as the pilot for the center hub of the 350 torque converter.

GM used 2 bolt circles for their torque converters (10.75" and 11.5") and most V8 flywheels are double drilled to accept either bolt pattern. Some heavy duty applications, like TH400 big block trucks, used the larger bolt pattern. The V6 flywheel should share the standard small bolt circle of the TH350 converter.

On some applications it may be necessary to drill new (or slot the existing) holes in the V6 flywheel to match the torque converter used. The pilot adapter keeps the converter centered in the rear of the crankshaft, the bolts do not perform that function. It is not a difficult operation, and can be accomplished at home with a drill press, or by any competent machinist. Instructions are included.

The small round machined piece is the center adapter for the torque converter pilot hub. The fastener pictured is a special flush head bolt which must be used on the lower passenger side corner of the adapter for clearance in the dowel pin area.

We apologize but this adapter will only work with the 60 degree V6 like the 2.8 and is not applicable to your Northstar series engine.

The only thing the Ecotec shares with the 60* V6 pattern is the alignment dowel pin locations, and even those are clocked differently. This adapter will not work on an Ecotec.

Sorry we are not aware of the compatibility of the 2.2 ecotec with this adapter. As far as we know this adapter does not fit that application.

will this mate a gm 2.2 (not ecotec) to an SBC bell housing? Converting an s10 to a manual trans. Will this enable me to bolt up an NV3500 out of a half ton Chevy 1500 to the 2.2? Does this kit accommodate for the SBC pilot bushing? Will the 4 cylinder starter work with the small block flywheel? Does there need to be a spacer between the crank and flywheel to offset the width of the bracket?

No this will not adapt a manual transmission to a newer 2.2 four cylinder. It is for adapting a TH350 automatic transmission to an earlier 2.8L V6 or 2.5L 4 cylinder only.

Actually the 3800 series carries the 60° bell pattern just like the 4cyl and 2.8/3.1/3.4L V6 engines. The older true Buick 3.8L is the BOP pattern.

Adapter number 91628907 does not mate to the 3800. It is designed for the earlier 4 cylinder and 2.8 V6’s. The adapter that would be a closer match up would be the part number 91628908 for the wider bellhousing 3800 V6.

The 2.5 in the Jeep Wrangler and XJ Cherokee is an AMC design which used the 60 degree (2.8) bolt pattern; AMC used the GM 60 degree bellhousing since their XJ Cherokees introduced in 1984 had the 2.8L as the optional powerplant but coupled 2 a Torqueflite 904 (later 30RH) - 1996-02 Dodge Dakotas also came with the 2.5L but coupled 2 the 40RH (A500/42RH/42RE family); this also includes the AM General DJ-5M which had the AMC 2.5. Jeep used the Iron Duke (1980-83) which had the Chevrolet V8/inline six bellhousing pattern but was coupled 2 a Torqueflite 904 (with the rare Chevrolet bellhousing) when used with the Jeep CJ7 and AMC Concord/Eagle. Flywheel bolt pattern on the crankshaft - im not sure if the 2.8 and Jeep 2.5 are the same since the 2.5 used larger hex bolts...

Part number 91628907 This adapter works on the majority of the 2.5 GM engines used in various applications including certain years of Jeep including 80-83 CJ versions. Verification to your application would be up to the installer.

Some of Speedway’s adapter plates work in a visa versa scenario. This adapter kit is more specific with regards to the adapter that goes into the end of the V6 crankshaft to accept the 350 Turbo transmission. If wanting to run the kit visa versa there would need to be the appropriate crankshaft adapter machined to center the torque converter properly. This part does NOT come with the kit and would be the customers obligation as well as converter bolt pattern verification or modification as needed.
