Notes

  1. Brake System Builder's Tip (Link)
  2. The manufacturer recommends using this tool only on soft material lines. However, we have had good luck using it on 3/16" steel lines. Extensive use on 3/16" lines or on larger steel lines may result in wearing out the tool quicker. We recommend using a lubricant on the swedge. Deluxe tool 910-89528 is recommended when working with steel tubing exclusively.
  3. If flaring stainless steel line, we strongly recommend our ratcheting flaring tool 910-89524.

works adequately if you know to fuss with it.

April 27, 2016
In order to get it to do the job, I replaced the wing nuts with regular nuts I could get a grip on. I greased the cone and cone threads. I took time to line up the sloppy clamp halves as I tightened down the holding bars. I could do the job on mild steel with no problem but forget stainless. It is a standard design and might be available cheaper.
Pros:
  • Will Do The Job
Cons:
  • Cheaply Made
Yes, I recommend this product.

Works well BUT!!

January 28, 2016
Works well on steel line, but need to replace the handle with a nut so able to use a wrench or socket in tight situations. Does make nice flares, hold line up slightly in clamp and use plenty of lube.
Pros:
  • Fair Cost
Cons:
  • Needs Nut Not Handle
Yes, I recommend this product.

Works fine. Nothing special.

December 20, 2015
This is your typical flaring tool, to be used held in a vise. It works fine, but I think it would be nice if they could include a chart showing the height to set the tubing above the surface of the tool in order to get the correct flare. In my case I found I needed just under 1/8" for 3/8" tubing. Make your cuts square, and add a drop of oil before flaring.
Pros:
  • Easy To Use
Cons:
  • Needs A Settings Chart
Yes, I recommend this product.

Worked great!

October 08, 2015
I purchased this tool to flare some 5/8" stainless steel line. I was concerned it wouldn't be strong enough for such a large, stiff tubing but with a good straight cut and an oiled yoke, it did a great job.
Yes, I recommend this product.
