Q & A

What's in the Box

Our standard power steering hose assemblies are an inexpensive alternative to the more costly stainless steel braided hose kits. This set adapts a 1982-1988 T-Bird/Cougar rack or our 91034340-POW rack to a GM style pump. Return hose will normally need to be cut to length.

The pressure line in this kit has an inverted flare fitting at the pump end along with a 14mm O-ring fitting on the rack end. It also comes with an adaptor so that it can work with an O-ring style (metric) pump fitting. We suggest using power steering pumps 91032922-GM or 910-32908.

Kit includes:

  • Adapter for the GM pump, to allow it to work with both metric O-ring and standard inverted flare style threads on the power steering pump fitting.
  • The fittings that go into the 1982-1988 T-bird rack which are 14mm O-ring (high pressure) and 16mm O-ring (low pressure return) with the smaller O-ring fitting hose end being the pressure side for the rack.

Not for and old pump or tight spaces

August 23, 2014
This set of hoses is well made and shipping was fast. Once I got them, I found out the pump hose will not work with and old style pump out of a 1967 Impala. On the rack side, my project has very limited room. The two fittings don't work in the limited space with short hoses. Just make sure you have a newer pump and room at the rack
Cons:
  • not for an old pump
  • not for limited space
Yes, I recommend this product.

The high pressure hose is 16 1/4 and the return hose is 24" but the return hose can be cut to the length you require.

Both adapters leak I have installed this line kit in my street rod project and both of the rack adapter fittings leak at the rack. They have the O ring and metal washer on them, but after filling with fluid they start to drip in 1-2 days. I know these need to be fully sealed before I go any further. Any suggestions? thread sealer of teflon tape? Thanks, Tim

We apologize for the issues you are having with our rack and pinion hose mate up. On the fittings you may want to check the O-rings to make sure they stayed in place after installation and if distorted replace them. Take care not to over tighten as this may also have a tendency to push the o-ring out one side or the other. If problem persists let us know and we pursue other options.

The inverted flare adapter is only needed if the fitting on the rear of your pump is designed for O-ring seal with a step down towards the bottom of the port. The adapter needs to be started straight or it will hang up and not go in. It needs to go in all the way and seat on the O-ring step. In some cases you may need to use a socket or piece of tubing and a mallet to light tap it in place.

Part # 91032535 This hose kit has the pump pressure side as Inverted Flare but also includes the O-ring to inverted flare adapter so it will work with our Mustang II flow valve with the O-ring style seal. If using our 82-88 Thunderbird power rack the flow valve normally is not needed.

I am trying to put the return hose onto the barb of pump 910-32908-chr Any tips on how? With steel re-enforcing in the hose, I can't imagine it will stretch over bulb on the barb. I've warmed it up and pushed and pushed. It won't go. It is on a small block in a 29" roadster, so there's limited room. thanks

Lubrication and heat can help with installing this hose over a barb fitting but depending on OD of the barb it can certainly be very tough to get the hose to slide over the barb.
