  • 3200-3500 stall - 10" diameter 
  • 1968-81 GM Turbo 350 or Turbo 400 - 10-3/4" bolt circle

All stall ranges will vary depending on the engine setup, vehicle weight, and gear ratios.

Note: These converters will work with TH400 transmissions only if a dual bolt pattern flywheel is used.

Item Details

Modified S/B or B/B cars with single or dual plane intake, 400+ hp, weighing 2800-3200 lbs, cam adv lift over .500" with 3.73-4.56 gears
These make use of 3/8-16"" bolts.

Notes

  1. All advertised stall ranges will vary depending on your engine's setup and the weight of your vehicle. If your car is heavier than the recommendation, the stall speed will be higher. If the car is lighter, stall speed will be at a lower RPM.

These converters are made for mild performance street applications. It was not designed or intended for a nitrous application.

would this be a good fit for my 31 ford with 350 sbc it has a 350 sbc 10:1 compression, tunnel ram intake, comp cams 12-601-4, really rough idle, it has a 2000 stall now and dies when put in gear. It has 4:10 gears with 31" tall firestone radials. I don't race, I do some cruises and car shows, this car was meant to look nasty and sound the same

Your Comp Thumper cam recommends a 2500 or more stall converter. This converter would work fine but may be a little more stall than necessary. Converter 109601 is 2700 to 3000 stall and should work fine for you as long as the carburetors are tuned correctly. The idle tuning of your carburetors will be very critical and sometimes a challenge with tunnel ram intakes.

Torque converters for TH350 and TH400 transmissions are produced with both 10.75" and 11.50" diameter converter bolt patterns. To identify the correct pattern, measure from the converter center to an attaching bolt hole center and then multiply this dimension by 2. If the transmission is still bolted up to the engine, measure from the center of one of the torque converter attaching bolts to the center of on of the crankshaft bolts. A measure of 3.585 is a 10.75" diameter converter bolt pattern. A measure of 3.96 is a 11.5" diameter converter bolt pattern.

I have a BBC 454, .030'' over with 12.5 compression and custom hyd roller with .700 lift and 305 duration. Also, tunnel ram 2 600 cfm in 88 chevy truck with 3.73 rearend. this is for street/strip, mostly street. is this right converter for my application??

You might even need a higer stall speed with an engine setup like that, however for street use it would probobly work fine.

We apologize but converter 109603 is not a lock up style converter and is not to be used with a lock up style transmission.

Will this TH350 Converter work with a 153 tooth flex plate and your Quick Time RM-6091 Chevy Auto Trans Midmount Plate with Safety Shield. Also will I need longer Dowel Pins in the block for alignment with the Transmission if I use the RM-6091 Safety Shield? and if so what would the part number be. Thank you

Yes this torque converter will work with a 153 tooth flex plate as well as the Quick Time saftey shield RM-6091. The extra long dowl pins 91025840 are suggested when using that saftey shield.
