What's in the Box

Info

No cutting or grinding is necessary with these Gasser subframes for your 1962-67 Chevy II Nova. These direct, bolt-in front ends use all the same stock holes that held the original IFS subframe, which includes sturdy upper firewall support tubes from the subframe rails. This adds strength to the subframe structure and supports the 8-bolts that hold the lower rails to the “chassis”. The firewall support tubes bolt directly to the firewall using existing factory holes. These leaf-spring suspensions include everything you'll need to install it into a stock Chevy II Nova chassis in a weekend.

  • Allows you to easily turn your 1962-67 Chevy II into a Gasser
  • Subframe and firewall supports bolt to factory mounting points
  • Comes with frame mounts installed for small block, big block, and LS series engines
  • Parallel leaf spring assembly bolts to subframe and supports tube axle
  • Springs are heavy enough to support big block applications
  • Equipped with Vega steering box and cross-style steering
  • Urethane bushings to withstand the punishment of today's streets while providing a comfortable ride
  • Kit includes subframe assembly, leaf springs, axle, spindles, new Vega steering box, steering arms, tie rod and drag link
  • 56-1/2" track width with Speedway disc brake kit and a 48" axle
  • Brake kit and other accessories available separately
  • Welding of spring pads to axle will be required

Notes

Benefit:  This kit will give your Nova or Chevy II that 60's, nose in the air look while still allowing it to be driven comfortably and safely on the street.

Motor Mounts:  The subframe comes with frame mounts installed for small block, big block, and LS series engines.  Block mounts that mate with the frame brackets are available for all three. S/B and B/B Chevy # 910-18058 block mounts are suggested.  For the LS series engine, 910-18058 plus adapter plates # 916-18016 are suggested.

(Note: When installing a Big Block Chevy engine, modification for clearance purposes of the firewall will be required and/or relocating the frame engine mounts forward will also be necessary)

Spring Rating:  The springs are heavy enough to support a big block and can be softened by removing one leaf if required for lightweight aluminum small block / LS applications.

Track Width:  Track width for these subframe kits is 56-1/2" with Speedway brake kits and a 48" axle.

Bushings:  Leaf spring bushings are urethane to withstand the punishment of today's streets while providing a comfortable ride.

Suggested Headers:  For small block applications, we offer our part numbers (930329) plain or (930329H) coated headers.

The kit was perfect, everything lined up, and it went together in less than a day. I had heard that this was the kit to get ... I can't compare it to any other, but my experience was perfect.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Cheaped out on hardware and vague instru

November 10, 2013
I bought this kit to go under my Chevy II and it bolted right on. It did take more than one weekend, but that was expected. I like the kit overall, but the hardware than comes with it is very cheap, grade 5 bolts and nylon lock nuts. I upgraded to grade 8 and metal lock nuts, plus some bolts were missing, on one of the u-bolts broke before it was even torqued down. The instructions aren't very clear and there are few helpful pictures. Overall a fair kit for the money, just be aware that the bolts are cheap and the instructions are vague.
Pros:
  • quick assembly
  • Price
  • part fitment
Cons:
  • cheap hardware
  • Poor instructions
Yes, I recommend this product.

We apologize but as of today we have yet to fit big block fenderwell headers to the bolt in Nova front. We do have a custom design for the small block under number 930329 and also available in coated. The only fenderwell we currently offer for the Big Block are part number 930C4 and these will require modifications.

This sub frame has the frame mount for the Chevy small and big block or LS engines. You will also need the kit 91018033 to get the block mount and cushions needed to mount the engine.

On the Nova gasser front end you can modify your steering column to accept a U-joint or use an aftermarket steering column. Form this point forward a section of steering shaft and then another U-joint from the shaft to the Vega box.

why don't you weld them at 6 degrees for a extra fee? would you? I had one of these from MAS back in the day that I welded at 6 degrees and the car drove stright with no shimmy ever. But I don't have a welder to do this now and would pay you to take care of it for me. thanks

Sorry we do not weld the spring pads on the axle. We do this so that you can mock it up on your car and get the correct amount of caster. The rear ride height can differ from car to car and thus change the caster.

We apologize but in the dropped tube axles they are only available in 48” so if a different length is needed you would need to section the main tube, sleeve, and weld back together. We can sub the 48” dropped axle at no additional charge but steering arm changes or modifications would be up to the builder. A Wilwood brake kit with .810" thick vented rotors is part number 835140152 for the Chevy spindles used on this kit.

No the spring pads are not welded onto the axle due to variances in rear ride height which will cause a change in caster. You will need to weld them on with a caster angle of 5 to 6 degrees.

The steel engine side mount used with the Nova gasser kit is number 91018058 and then the cushion kit number 7209314. The factory steering column in the 62-67 Nova will not hook up to the Vega box on the gasser front. The original column would require modification to enable adapting to a U-joint, an intermediate shaft in the length needed, and then the U-joint at the Vega box such as 91032235. Many customers opt for an aftermarket column upgrade to eliminate the necessary modification and alteration of the original column.
