What's in the Box

When you put modern disc brakes on the front of your 1958-1964 Chevy full-size car (Bel-Air, Biscayne, Impala), you should update the master cylinder as well. Stock 4-wheel drum master cylinders do not have the capacity to supply the proper amount of pressure for front disc brakes. For best results, we recommend using this simple, bolt-on master cylinder booster kit on all front disc brake conversions.

Yes this kit will fit your '58 Impala but clearance to the 454 engine is unknown. The booster included in this kit is 8" diameter so you may want to take some measurements for clearance to the engine.

We apologize for any confusion but the proportioning vale used in kit number 91035864 is a front disc and rear drum application valve and not meant to be a direct original replacement for the 55-57. It is the only one offered with the fitting configuration and will work correctly along with the booster and master cylinder in the kit.

No for a drum front and rear application use kit number 91031974. It can be used for disc front and rear or drum front and rear applications.

Booster combo number 91035864 has brackets in the kit for mounting the assembly to the firewall on the 1958-64 Chevy car. If you want the assembly on the firewall it will take some modification but could be made to work. If you prefer to have it under the floor like the original and there is clearance from the Nova sub you may want to consider part number 91031959 and a booster master combo number 91031411 and an adjustable proportioning valve number 91031353.

Booster kit number 91035864 comes with the mount brackets to the firewall and it does angle the booster and master up slightly for additional valve cover clearance. With 18-20 inches of vacuum the brakes will be more sensitive and require less pedal travel. Normally part number 91031982 is not needed unless dictated by personal preference.

Im installing this unit on a 1960 chevy impala with your disc brake kit up front and stock drums out back, does the proportioning valve that comes in this kit have a built in 10lbs residual valve for the rear drum brakes? the master cylinder is a basically a copy of a early 70s corvette which had 4 wheel disc brakes, the 4 wheel disc brake master cylinder did not have a residual built in. from my understanding a 10lbs residual valve is needed for the rear drums to function properly.

The proportioning valve in this Kit does not incorporate a residual pressure valve. If you are using this in conjunction with drum brakes I strongly recommend adding a 10 lb. residual valve in the drum brake circuit (such as our 91031347). It would not be a bad idea to also put a 2 lb. Residual Valve in the disc brake circuit, but the 10 lb. valve in the drum circuit is a must-do.

1955-1964 Chevy Power Brake Booster Bracket, Passenger Cars

This bracket makes it easy to convert to power brakes while keeping the master cylinder level. The bracket is designed to work with 1955-64 Chevrolet A Body and B body passenger cars such as the Bel Air, Biscayne, Impala and Caprice. The booster side of this bracket has the common 3-3/8” center to center both vertical and horizontal.
