Q & A

What's in the Box

On your 1955-57 Chevy car, the front motor mounts are at the front of the block and the rear mount attaches to the bellhousing. This works fine for original use but makes it hard to swap in a different trannsmission or add belt driven accessories to the front of the engine.

Use with engine cushions 910-18012 and transmission crossmember 916-28910 listed below. No welding, but drilling required.

The best mounts for your Tri 5

August 12, 2014
These are by far the best mount option for a Tri 5 Chevy. They can be welded or sometimes bolted, dePending on the frame you have. I've installed 4 sets of these and about half of the time they need to be welded on, however that is because 55-57 Chevy frames do vary quite a bit. The other options out there aren't nearly as strong, and dont allow for the needed clearance when you want to run power steering pumps and or headers on a small block.
Yes, I recommend this product.

A well made product. I can recommend.

June 23, 2012
The bracket part # 4175 does not come with pads. The recommended part #910-18012 for the pads from Speedway. The bracket has mounting holes that require a 9/16 bolt. The largest bolt that will fit the pads is 7/16. I had to drill out the pad ears to 9/16 in order to use the sturdier bolt. Trans Dapt mount pads do not seem to be offered. It is part # 9525. I do not know if Trans Dapt pads will accept the 9/16 bolt either. I did not want a sloppy fit but it would certainly be easier to line up using the smaller bolt in the larger hole.
Pros:
  • Can Withstand Use
Yes, I recommend this product.

anything is possible, but not practical. have to drill holes to bolt or acess to weld . would not reccommend

The Tri-5 Chevy side mount kit number 7204175 would be difficult to install with the engine in the car. Drilling and bolting the vertical portion of the bracket to the inside of the frame rail would be the problem area. The only option would be to come from the bottom side and actually mig or tig weld the bracket to the frame.

These should work to eliminate the front mount and the bell housing mount and still work with the stock steering gear. It should keep the engine in the stock location and customers have moved the engine forward slightly for a gain in distributor clearance. The transmission cross member kit number 91628910 completes the transformation for a more durable and up to date mount system.

I doubt it. I would use a flat plate where stock mount bolts to side of block, the drill for u side of mount to move engine forward

You could move the engine forward with these, however if your car is already put together you would need to change your rear transmission cross member and mount, the exhaust, and you might have to have a longer driveshaft, maybe more depending on your application. I would recommend getting a small body distributor instead. This would be much faster and more cost effective. You might consider this one (5478360) http://www.speedwaymotors.com/MSD-Chevy-V8-with-Internal-Module-Distributor,8974.html. It is a ready to run distributor, meaning you don't need any ignition box to install this distributor. The smaller cap should fit in place of a points type distributor.

These 1955-57 Chevy motor mounts are designed to bolt to the side of the block and allow the use of most block hugger and long tube style headers. Do to different brand of headers it is impossible to say they will work with all headers, it would be up to the installer to determine if they will work with your application.
