Q & A

What's in the Box

Classic Chevy owners will love these 396-502 big block V8 chassis headers for 1955-1957 cars. They have 34"-36" primary tubes for lots of power, but they're tucked close to the body for maximum ground clearance. Requires aftermarket side engine mounts and a rear trans crossmember (rather than stock bellhousing mounts).

  • Mid-length design offers maximum ground clearance, even if car is lowered 4"
  • Works with automatic transmissions only
  • Designed to work with stock steering or 605 power steering box
  • Original bellhousing frame mounts must be removed
  • Will NOT work if engine is set forward more than 3/4" for firewall/HEI distributor clearance
  • Will NOT fit tall-deck (truck) blocks
  • Header Dimensions (GIF)

Note: These headers will not work with manual transmissions due to clutch linkage issues.

Application

  1. Will not fit if engine is located more than 3/4” forward for HEI firewall clearance. Fits with TCI engine mount kit PN 725-7005-80 and with the equivalent Danchuk mounts.
  2. Header is designed to fit cars using original V-8 pitman arm part number 3719487 not 6 cylinder pitman arm number 3709877. Aftermarket pitman arms must be same configuration as OE for proper header fit.
  3. Works with A/C, P/B, P/S, and A/T (both column and floor shifters).

Doesn't fit

February 28, 2015
These look to be high quality construction. Too bad they won't fit between the stock suspension, won't clear the a-frames and sits against the gearbox pushing the engine 1 1/2' to the right.
Pros:
  • Good Quality
Cons:
  • Won't fit
No, I would not recommend this product.

The primary tubes will pass directly through the area that the Z bar and clutch fork is located.

These headers will not have clearance if moved forward more than 3/4 “. Steering linkage and then also the chassis will have mount interference if a big block is positioned more than ¾” forward.

will these headers fit a 366bbc in a 1956 chevy with pwr steering? After installing the engine, there is only an inch and 1/2 clearance between the 3rd exhaust whole on the drivers side and the original steering box. Your cooperation will be appreciated.

These headers are designed for 396-502 B/B Chevys and will not fit the tall-deck truck blocks (if that is what your 366 is out of). It will work with both original steering and aftermarket 605 power steering.

Big Block Chevy Fenderwell Headers for 1955-57 Chevy, AHC Coated
(Part #930C4H)

These fender well headers provide the ultimate performance for 396-502 big block Chevy V8s in 1955-57 Chevy car applications. They kick up over the frame rail and exit just at the bottom of the cowl, which makes them perfect for Gasser-style rods and drag cars. These headers feature long primary tubes that help produce more horsepower and torque than shorter, more compact headers. Plus, the AHC ceramic coating provides additional horsepower gains along with decreased heat soak of other engine components.

These headers are not for the faint of heart since you must cut the inner fender panels to make them fit, and tire clearance can be a problem on some applications. They may require smaller front tires to avoid contact. The stock emergency brake rod must also be altered. Can be used with most oil filter systems or transmission and starter combinations. The headers are designed to be used with engines in the stock location, not lowered as many kits do, so all '55-'57 cars should check motor mount positioning before ordering.

  • Header flange has 1-13/16” x 1-13/16" port size
  • Will require fender well cutting or alteration
  • 2" primary tube O.D.
  • 32" primary tube length
  • 3-1/2" collector tube O.D.
  • Polished ceramic coated finish
  • Includes bolts and gaskets

Header Dimensions (GIF)

Note: This header actually goes upward from the head instead of down before dropping over the frame rails. From the top of the head flange to the top of the tubes is approximately 9-1/2".

Moroso 20431 Big Block Chevy Conversion Oil Pan
(Part #54520431)

If you have ever tried to put a B/B chevy in a Tri-Five Chevy or Chevy II, you know there just isnt much room. This pan was designed to make the job a little easier. This pan has a 7 quart capacity (w/o filter) and accepts up to a 4-1/4" stroke with steel rods.

  • Pick-up 54524430 is required for installation
  • Notched rear sump clears steering linkage
  • Accepts strokes up to 4.250" with steel rods, 4.090" with aluminum rods
  • Compatible with most starter/flywheel combinations
  • 1/4" NPT Thread for dipstick assembly, suggested dipstick # 545-25971

Fits Mark IV style 396-454 (except Gen V and Gen VI) Big Block Chevy V-8s. For 1962-67 Chevy II (without power steering) and 1955-57 Chevys. Transmission MUST be in stock position.
