Q & A

What's in the Box

These Speedway headers allow you to keep the exhaust system under your '55-'57 Chevy car. The "3/4-length" design provides more ground clearance than full-length headers, yet makes more power than "shorty" style headers. These chassis headers fit 283-400 S/B Chevy V8s and has 1-5/8" primary tubes with 2-1/2" collectors.

  • Mid-length design offers maximum ground clearance
  • Designed to work with stock or 605 power steering box
  • Fits cars using an original V-8 pitman arm (some aftermarket arms may cause an interference)
  • Will work with side engine mounts with engine in stock location
  • Fits standard and Vortec-style small-block Chevy heads (not D-port, LT-1 or ZZ-4)
  • Does not work with stock clutch linkage
  • (Please use the chart below to help with dimensions.) Drivers side A dimension is 3-1/2" up by the head and 5-5/8" at the collector, B dimension is 15", and C dimension is 21".  Passenger side A dimension is 4" at the head and 6-5/8" at the collector, B is 15", and C is 21".

NOTE: Stainless header tubing when exposed to exhaust temperature will cause the finish to change color which will vary with the exhaust temperature. Please note that the finish of the header when the engine is started, will change to a light champagne color to a darker gold finish and in some instance may even turn dark blue or purple. This can be polished back out when utilizing Blue-away or Simi-chrome polish, but please note that when the headers reach running temperature again, they will immediately change color.

Notes

These headers do not fit angle-plug heads. They do work with a "605"steering box.  They work with most any bellhousing and most any motor mounts.  Some aftermarket starters may be in the way.  Designed to fit cars using an original V-8 pitman arm.  Some aftermarket arms may cause an interference.

Are the stainless '55-'57 SB headers shaped the same as the AHC coated ones? The descriptions are the same but the images are different. It looks like the tube coming from the first cylinder on the driver's side is made different and will hit the side engine mount on the SS headers. The AHC headers come across and then seem to turn down allowing more clearance for the cradle/mount. I do like how the collector flange is toed out on the SS ones though. Are these actually made different or is one photo just not current? My application is a little odd. It is for a '59 Chevy truck with a sectioned Impala frame from the firewall forward with a 327. I used side mounts on the cradle. I tried tight-fit headers but they hit the mounting bolt that goes though the motor mounts right at the collector.

On part number 930C7S the photo is mirrored and not exact as they come. The passenger side does have the extra bend to clear the bellhousing mount if so equipped and the drivers side is straighter as the head is further forward. The 930C7 photo is an older photo and the design has since been changed. The headers have worked well for Speedway customers and we have had very few returns.

Chrome Warning: Due to a revised chroming process brought on by recent EPA regulations and high labor costs, today's chrome is not the quality of days gone by. Be Aware: Exhaust components which are chrome plated are now much more susceptible to blueing, blistering, peeling & corrosion. No warranty or returns on chrome exhaust items once them have been installed.
