What's in the Box

Info

Original Flathead water pumps have always suffered from unreliable bronze bushings and carbon seals. They almost always leaked and even Ford manuals warned mechanics not to tighten fan belts too tight. The excess slack allowed belts to slip and lose contact with the generator and water pump pulleys, causing more cooling and power problems.

Speedways completely new water pumps feature severe-duty roller and ball bearings, close tolerances and modular impellers to provide maximum flow and reduce cavitation. They also have modern ceramic seals on a heavy duty 5/8" shaft, making the assembly exceptionally strong and more efficient. Gaskets included.

Quality product........

Speedway's 1949 Ford Flathead V-8 water pump mount holes matched up perfect. After installation there were no leaks. Pulley quality is heavy duty with correct width to accommodate the wide v-belt. 5/8" in use. The water pump casting appeared perfect / just like original, however, had a plug hole in the casting was not on original pump. This didn't matter because tapered plug was provided and installed #no leak#...........
Pros:
  • good quality gasket
Yes, I recommend this product.

That looks like a different water pump than we’ve seen before. It must be unique to the military application that they used these engines for. This water pump you are looking at would be a stock replacement for a 49-53 Ford Flathead, and that means it does not have the correct motor mount provisions for a Model A. If it were me, I would try pump part number 91015592 instead. That is a 49-53 style pump, but has the early style motor mount provision, and still uses the wider 5/8” belt. The only thing I’m not sure of is the lower pulley, that may or may not have the correct offset. You might have to get a 49-53 style car pulley to make that pump work.

Original Flathead water pumps had unreliable bronze bushings that required frequent oiling. Speedway pumps number 91015594 have ball bearings and do not require oiling or maintenance.
