These kits allow you to put front disc brakes on your 1948-56 Ford F100 1/2 ton pickup trucks. No spindle modifications are required - this is a bolt-on kit. This F100 disc brake conversion kit uses '76-'81 Dodge Aspen brake rotors (or Chrysler equivalent) and '70-'77 Camaro brake calipers (or GM equivalent) on stock '48-'56 Ford half ton pickup truck spindles. Rotors have a 5 on 4-1/2" Ford bolt pattern.

Good kit, could be better

Well made kit in appearance and fit. Needs instructions for beginners as kit parts were scattered through my entire order. Mounting bolts need to be 1/2" shorter for better appearance. Also needs a note that king pin retainer/steering stop will have to be modified to get proper steering cut. This needs to be done before vehicle is driven, to be safe.

This brake kit weighs approximately 87 pounds. Drop axle number 9104852 which is for 48 to 52 Ford F1 weighs 45 pounds.

You need to allow 7 1/8 from center of rotor to outside of caliper and most 14" wheels will not clear.

No, in 1948 Ford changed out the front spindles, the front spindles on a 47 ½ ton pickup was the same as the passenger car. Speedway offers brake kit part #910-31940 (Ford pattern) or 910-31941 (GM pattern).

The brake kit number 91031914 is for the half ton only and not applicable to the F2 spindles.

This brake kit is for the 1948-56 Ford half ton pickup and will NOT work on the early 37-48 Ford passenger spindles. If you used the F1 front kit for brakes on your 37-48 Ford passenger car or pickup spindles then you would need a brake kit for those spindles such as number 91031945 or 91031940 offering the Ford 4 1/2 bolt pattern and also available with the Chevy bolt pattern.

Rotor diameter is not the only factor for wheel fit verification. The 4 ½ and 4 ¾ rotors are 11” whereas the 5 ½ pattern are 11 ¾”. If you lay a 12 ruler on the inside of your wheel and measure down to the bolt surface where it will bolt onto the hub anything over ¾” will require spacing the wheel out from the hub/rotor in order to achieve caliper clearance.

Part number 91031914 Disc brake do require more fluid than drum brakes and also more pressure to the calipers. You will need to install a proportioning valve such as part number 91031353 in the line going to the rear brakes to cut down the pressure and eliminate rear wheel lock up on hard braking and allow for all four wheels offering even stopping power. An additional and recommended option would be a dual reservoir master cylinder for the safety benefit offered. If opting for this the large reservoir is always plumbed to the front disc brakes. Without a booster a 1” bore is largest recommended and is similar to your existing master cylinder dimensions. Pedal travel and pedal pressure requirement will increase slightly when going to front disc brakes as compared to four wheel drum.

Your truck has a much larger bolt pattern for the backing plate. Plus the spindle and brakes are both much larger. Ford put disc brakes with king pin spindles on big trucks from about 1980 on. Ford used the same diameter king pins on the 1/2 and 3/4 trucks for many many years so the big trucks could follow the same pattern just larger. Just go to Napa ask for a kit and compare the diameter of your 56 spindle to a newer F7 or 800 spindle in a kit. Have fun.

This kit is for 1/2 ton pickups therefore it would not fit your application, and would not have sufficient brake area for a vehicle of that weight and size.
