  • Great-looking Wheel
  • Good Size For The '40

Easy install looks good

April 09, 2015
Very nice looking steering wheel. Went on with no problems. The only thing you need to do is add a couple of nuts locked together on the horn button so it connects with the GM steering shaft . there is a hole in the center of the steering shaft for a wheel puller, and the screw that makes the connection for the horn didn'nt go deep enough to make a connection. I added two nuts locked together and works great.
Pros:
  • Fits Well
Cons:
  • needs a longer screw for the horn button
Yes, I recommend this product.

Sorry we do not offer an adapter to mount this steering wheel to your VW Bug. This steering wheel uses a 69-94 GM style splined connection. It may be tough to find an adapter to mount it to your application.

Will it work with your columns? I understand this wheel will bolt up to the Post 69 GM columns, but will it also work with your Speedway columns? Particularly the plain, column shift, 30" column you offer? I'd assume it would since this column is basically a Speedway version of an Ididit/Similar. Thanks! Dave

Yes this steering wheel can be mounted to our Speedway columns which use the '69 to '94 GM style steering wheel attachment such as column part number 91032977.

This steering wheel is a custom made 40 Ford steering wheel that will work on many years of GM columns up to 69 and then on 69-94 GM columns and aftermarket Flaming River, Ididit, and the Speedway columns with a splined shaft. We do not offer an adapter that will go from 5/8" x 36 spline female to 11/16" x 36 spline male and doubtful it is produced. We apologize for the inconvenience.

This steering wheel comes painted black as shown in the picture. You could have it painted to a color of your choice locally if black is not what you are after.

Item #: 4103294 says it has a 40 spline count. Is this adaptor not workable with this wheel?
July 12, 2013
Jason
This steering wheel is a direct fit to the ’69-94 GM car columns and also the Ididit and Flaming river columns. Truck and van columns sometimes vary and for verification will need to match .688 or 11/16” by 36 spline. If your shaft has a master spline or flat space simply count half of the shaft that is solid splines and multiply by two. Speedway does not offer an adapter to fit a 40 spline shaft.
