The heads and rotating assembly should work together fine and on the later block you will also need a set of standard main bearings plus the normal overhaul gasket sets and a new oil pump would also be a good addition to the list.

more on machine work Previously asked was "is machine work necessary" Of course we all know a bore is required, but what of the lower portion of the block? (for stroker rod and crank clearances)

Typically there will not be much clearancing of the block required when installing a stroker kit in a Flathead engine. You will need to install all the pistons and rods and rotate the engine over checking for clearance around the rods. We recommend doing this before final cleaning of the block in case there are areas that need ground for clearance. You do not need to install rings on the pistons when doing this.

As with any performance up grade the cooling depends greatly on the engine specifications for quality and then the proper radiator and coolant flow. We have been selling these kits number 915296 for years and have not heard any comments or complaints that the customers are unable to keep the engine cool. A good aluminum radiator and sufficient air flow usually handles the job.

My kit goes into a 1950 8BA Ford. yes, she needs machining ... but when you are going this way, that's expected.

There may be some additional machine work required on your block. We apologize for the confusion on the main bearings. The part number 9101536-STD is the correct main bearing set for this kit and I do have them in stock currently.

Speedway 1949-1953 Flathead Ford V8 Main Engine Bearings-Standard Bore
(Part #9101536-STD)

Speedway Motors has all the parts you need to rebuild your Flathead Ford V8, including these high quality main bearings. Precision built to the high standards demanded by today's rodders and restorers, these silicon bi-metal bearings are available in standard size, .010", .020", or .030" undersize.

  • Improves Crankshaft Finish: Silicon particles reduce/eliminate microscopic ferrite peaks on improperly ground/polished nodular cast iron crankshafts.
  • Wear Resistance: During engine operation, silicon particles round off crank journal high spots, reducing friction and related wear.
  • Improved oil clearance: Because of reduced wear, silicon bearings make it possible to maintain OE clearances over the life of the engine, which reduces operating noise, vibration, and excess oil flow.
  • Tolerance Control: All shells matched to ± .0001" vs. the competitions' ± .00025"
  • Temperature Threshold: Silicon bimetal material melts/flakes at 662° F vs. tri-metal at 365° F.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Defends against corrosion caused by unleaded fuels and moisture.
  • Environmentally Friendly: All KING silicon bimetal engine bearings are "Lead Free".
  • O.E. preferred material: Most O.E. engines today use and enjoy the benefits of silicon bimetal bearings.
