Does this crossmember have ant built in caster?
Asked on 12/31/2010 10:29:57 AM by from
This cross member itself does not come with built in caster you can add it in when it is installed depending on how much rake you want for your vehicle (approx 2-3 degrees) with your axle having a positive (towards rear of vehicle) caster of 4-6 degrees.

I am getting ready to weld this in my 36 chevy truck frame. Is there anything i need to know before installing this? Angle weld? Measurements? Thanks!

Part # 91657012 When welding this into your frame you may want to consider the ride height and rake angle on the frame. For the hot rod enthusiast with a radical rake on the frame you may want to tilt the crossmember rearward to compensate for the angle. Desired castor in the front axle is 5-7 degrees positive and to eliminate spring bind when not using adjustable pivot bolts setting the cross member with the 5-7 degrees angle helps with this problem. A mock up on desired rake or frame drop in the front will help determine how much lean back is actually needed.
